6 Ways to Use Chaos in the Classroom For Your Next PD!
Arrange players into groups of 5 - 8 people for each of the following activities:
1. Deal each participant 7 white cards. Read one prompt and have each person pick the best choice to fill in the blank. Share aloud to pick the winner.
2. Determine a leader for each team. Leader deals every player (including self) 10 white cards. Starting with the leader, each person lays down a card to create and add on to the phrase. Play continues clockwise until everyone has played a card. Team phrases are read aloud.
3. Give each person one green card and 7 white cards. Players select one white card that they think is the best response to their green card. Go around group and have each person share their prompt (green card) and response (white card).
4. Draw an orange card and read aloud. Give everyone a piece of paper and pen to write their unique response to the Orange prompt. Have everyone share their response.
5. Determine a leader for each group. Draw an orange card and read aloud. Have teams discuss to determine the best response to the prompt. The leader shares the team’s response aloud.
6. Arrange participants in teams of people who know each other well (grade level teams, content area teams, etc.). Give each person a piece of paper to write their name on. Put the papers with participant names in the center of the table along with 20 white cards that describe an action.
Create a unique prompt to reflect a meaningful time for your faculty, such as: “It was the day before the semester break when ______ (insert name) was _________ (insert white card phrase).
Continue this until every player has been matched with an activity that best fits their personality.
Teams read their stories aloud.
Note: For all games, players can modify prepositions and pronouns to make phrases flow well. Players may also add words that are needed to connect cards sensibly.
